He will report to WMGC Chief Executive, Neil Rami, and work closely with the wider WMGC team. Create Central and WMGC have developed a Partnership Agreement to enable both organisations to work together to support inward investment for the region’s gaming, TV, film, creative technology and wider creative content sectors.  

Birmingham-born Nick brings a wealth of creative industries experience. Prior to establishing his independent consultancy Nick has worked for some of the world’s biggest media brands, most recently as Vice-President, Global Public Policy Europe at WarnerMedia. He has also held senior positions at Channel 4 and ITV and began his career in the media industry working at the BBC. Nick will help us to drive our programme to build, expand and attract regional investment, promoting and supporting the West Midland’s amazing creative content sectors.

More about the role

As lead consultant on this project, Nick will oversee the collaborative work of Create Central and WMGC to develop and deliver the Production and Inward Investment Strategy for the sector. Nick’s focus will be on:

  • delivery of the consortium’s production and inward investment strategy
  • global head-hunting of projects, finance, IP and talent
  • stakeholder and industry management
  • secure new funding and investment for the sector
  • overseeing delivery of specific programme strands.

The role is situated within the WMGC’s inward investment team, which aims to attract more businesses and investors to the region from overseas and domestic markets. Together with Create Central’s Executive Team, Nick Toon and WMGC will support pitches, develop propositions and organise industry specific events. Operating as a consultant within the WMGC team, will enable Nick to get started straight away on galvanising inward investment for the creative content sector.
