Andrew has 30 years of senior-level experience working across museums, leisure, tourism, arts, heritage and protected landscape sectors. He moved into museums after 11 years working for the Lake District National Park, joining York Museums as Head of Visitor Services in 1996.
Before starting his role as the Chief Executive of the multi-award-winning Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, he was the founding General Manager of Great Western Railway in Swindon and Deputy and Acting Chief Executive of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
His career highlights at the Black Country Living Museum include attaining designation status for the museum's entire collection, winning the national Visit England Large Visitor Attraction of the Year in 2025, and increasing visitor attendance by almost 70%.
Andrew chaired the Association of Independent Museums between 2019 and 2025 (for which he was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours 2022 for services to culture and heritage, especially during COVID-19) and was Deputy Chair of the National Museum Directors’ Council between 2022 and 2025, advocating for the UK’s national museums and 40 of the UK’s largest regional museums.
In October 2024, the Government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport appointed Andrew to serve as part of Arts Council England, and in 2020, the Mayor of the West Midlands appointed him as Chair of the West Midlands Tourism & Hospitality Advisory Board.
In July 2022, he was appointed as a Director of the West Midlands Growth Company, helping the company deliver on its mission to create new jobs, attract inward investment, and encourage tourism in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Andrew lives in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
