Earlier this year, the West Midlands Growth Company commissioned the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index to assess our Environmental, Social, Supplier and Destination Management performance for the first time.
The GDS Index is used to benchmark cities and supply chains, and takes into consideration a range of factors from energy emissions and air quality, to diversity, inclusion, and equality.
Birmingham scored 44.46 in the report, with the city ranked 75th out of 100 destinations and leading the West Midlands scoring (top destinations received a score between 70 and 90). This was in line with our expectations for a first-time score and provides tailored recommendations regarding our sustainability policy and practice, through which we expect to continue to improve our sustainability performance.
