Investing In Our Futures is the West Midlands Growth Company’s Annual Review for 2023/24.

In it, we discuss how we have partnered with the West Midlands Combined Authority, our local authorities, universities, and the private sector to create new opportunities for the people who live, work, visit, and invest in our region.

Our collective achievements over the past 12 months include: 

  • Helping the West Midlands to remain the top destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) outside of London, directly supporting 77 projects and delivering 6453 new jobs. 
  • Coordinating the West Midlands’ presence at the UK’s Real Estate and Infrastructure Forum for the first time, meeting with over 100 potential capital investors and promoting the region to more than 3000 people within the real estate industry
  • Supporting the distribution of the £6 million Major Events Fund to ten cultural and sporting events across the West Midlands that will provide an estimated £11.5 million boost to the local economy, and securing six major business conferences which will deliver a total economic impact of £34.5million. 

We’ve also displayed the West Midlands’ cutting-edge tech credentials to more than 640 delegates from 24 countries at Birmingham Tech Week, and welcomed more than 1700 of the leading figures from the global sports industry during the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit. 

What’s next? 

In 2024/25 we will continue to build for our region’s future, helping to develop the skills to meet the challenges of tomorrow and enabling diversity of thought and talent to thrive.  

Our broad programme of activity for 2024-25 includes:

  • West Midlands Investment Zone – helping build on the region’s historic strengths in advanced manufacturing to drive growth in battery, digital and sustainable construction technologies.
  • Visitor Pass – creating a new multi-destination pass which offers visitors from home and abroad access to the region’s top venues and attractions.
  • It Starts Here – raising awareness of our region’s world-shaping technology and innovation through a new investment campaign to drive investment and jobs.
