The firm’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2040 led to them adopting a relocation and refurbishment construction approach rather than new build. The office, at Livery Street, is on track to receive a gold SKA rating, the highest standard for sustainable refurbishment with 100 best practice measures covering energy and CO2 emissions, waste, water, materials, pollution, wellbeing and transport. Mott MacDonald is a signatory to the West Midlands Net Zero Pledge and has validated science-based emission reduction targets in line with 1.5 degree trajectory.
Mott MacDonald has been operating in the Midlands for over 100 years. Their portfolio includes work on most of the railway stations currently under development and construction in the region, including University Station in Birmingham and influencing investment across all modes of transport over the next decade by helping the West Midlands Combined Authority write their Local Transport Plan. Mott MacDonald is also working in partnership to deliver the masterplan for Arden Cross, closing the health skills gap at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and identifying more than 4000 potential renewable energy and storage opportunities as part of the Solihull renewable energy project, which could deliver more than double the current electricity demand.
From its new Birmingham base, the consultancy will continue to deliver integrated design, engineering, advisory and management services across water, health, transport, energy, and the built environment. Mott MacDonald is also a longstanding commercial partner of the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) – the region’s official investment promotion agency – supporting key initiatives, such as the region’s drive to accelerate the net zero transition across its key sectors.
