Each month, we will put a team member in the hotseat by asking them some insightful questions about their career and interests.

This month, it is time for our Head of Commercial Partnerships and Sector Lead - Business, Professional, Financial Services Tracey Davenport to answer some questions. Here are the responses:

  1.  What do you do at WMGC?

I currently wear two hats:  Head of Commercial Partnerships but I’m also the Business, Professional & Financial Services Sector Lead, supporting new inward investment and expansion requirements for a range of organisations from FinTechs to global organisations.

  2.  What do you like about working at WMGC?

It’s definitely never dull – there’s a wide variety of work and need to connect different colleagues together, along with working strategically with business and other colleagues across the public sector including Central Government, Regional and Local Government and others.
  3. What is something clients in your industry have to deal with that you want to fix?

They want to connect and support the communities where their employees and families live.  It can be a challenge to do this since the interface between the public and private sector can be challenging to navigate – this needs to be made easier as the private sector can assist with solving so many issues facing the public sector for the wider benefit of the West Midlands and UK.
  4. Where have you worked in the past?

I’ve had a really varied career working in the USA and UK, but the main focus has been in the Financial and Professional Services sector working in business development, marketing and client relationship roles.  I lean on a lot of the lessons that I experienced in those roles every day at WMGC.
  5.  What's your background?

I grew up in Michigan, USA and went to university there before moving to the UK after graduation.  My hometown is referenced in the Simon & Garfunkel song America – I’ll see if readers can pick up where that is!
  6. What's your favourite quote?

“When you improve a little each day, eventually big things occur.” – US basketball coach John Wooden
  7. What book are you currently reading?

“Taste – My Life Through Food” by Stanley Tucci
  8.  What are the values that drive you?

"Do what you say you’re going to do" and “treat others as you wish to be treated”, I believe if you stick by those values, that will help you navigate life quite well.
  9. What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love my sports – my passion is American Baseball and more specifically the Chicago Cubs, but I’ve become quite the football fan as well supporting the downs and now mainly ups at Newcastle United.
